In the episode "The Germans" where Manuel starts a fire in the kitchen (ironically during a fire drill), the BBC had to treat Sachs with sulfuric acid to look like his white waiter's jacket was on fire. Although the prop department assured Sachs this jacket was flame-retardant, the acid burned through the coat and gave Sach's severe second-degree burns on his back and arms. Although he was told by the doctor he would have them for a lifetime, they did go away after a few years. The BBC paid Sachs 700£ for their mistake.
In the episode "The Wedding Party," Sachs was to be hit over the head with a frying pan by John Cleese. In the rehearsals, they were sure to use a pan that was padded with foam rubber. But during filming, the pan in the kitchen set was unpadded and Sachs was struck in the head by Cleese. Sachs was really knocked out and had a headache for days. Cleese never apologized, but bought Sachs another Babycham (his favorite drink).
