Andy: (when believed that Ron Howard will cast him in one of his former co-star's anticipated directorial movies): Ron Howard called me a few mornings ago. He and his wife had seen it and he wanted to tell me how he liked it. And he thought I was good in it, too, and he said, 'Sometime, it will happen.' I look forward to it when it does happen. At least Ronnie still knows that I'm a pretty good actor.

Andy: (as to how he valued Don Knotts as an actor and best friend): I loved Don. There was no one like him.

Andy: (when making a guest appearance, if he was interested in responding about himself being a Christian) I did the 'Crook & Chase' show, while I was in Nashville. They asked me if I had a church background, and when I said I was born a Baptist, that got the audience on fire. They must have all been Baptists.

Andy: I still play that guitar. It's a Martin D-18 with a clear pick guard. I've played that guitar on and off my TV shows for nearly 50 years.

Andy: (on his singing) I sang 'A Closer Walk with Thee,' along with blues singer, Brownie McGhee, ... Then, there was a show were Carol Huston, an actress on Matlock sang, It Is Well With My Soul, accompanied by a choir. Boy, that was powerful.

Andy: (on his off-camera relationship with Frances Bavier, who played Aunt Bee) There was just something about me she did not like.

Andy: (speaking about The Andy Griffith Show) Whenever Don Knotts and I were waiting for lighting cues, we would sing hymns in harmony... The show depicted Barney as tone deaf, but Don has a beautiful tenor voice.

Andy: I was baptized alongside my mother when I was 8 years old. Since then I have tried to walk a Christian life. And now that I'm getting older I realiz that I'm walking closer with my God.

Andy: "You know when you're young you think you will always be, ... As you become more fragile, you reflect and you realize how much comfort can come from the past. Hymns can carry you into the future."

Andy:"Hymns are companions for life travelers."
