If Betty White is America's Sweetheart, Art Linkletter is the male version of the same. Art Linkletter is now 94 years old and still going strong, flying about the country for speaking engagements about 60 times a year. Art has been married to his wife Lois for 70 years. He once had TV shows on NBC, CBS and ABC - all at the same time. The weekday "House Party," which offered entertainment, household tips and interviews, etc., lasted on radio and television from 1945 to 1970. It also originated the memorable feature "Kids Say the Darndest Things." Other shows included "Hollywood Talent Scouts," "Life With Linkletter" and "People Are Funny," one of broadcasting's first reality shows, debuting on radio in 1940 and television in 1954. A little known fact about Art is he had the first reality show on TV which was People Are Funny and started airing in 1954. Art attributes his longevity to not drinking, getting plenty of sleep and excersizing every day.Summing up, Linkletter observes that attitude plays a big role in longevity. He is a positive thinker. That enables him to dismiss tragedies and failures and try again." Art's appeal to everyone is due to his reputation for being just a regular person. Linkletter's daughter Diane allegedly committed suicide in 1969, under the influence of LSD, he says. An autopsy revealed no drugs in Diane's system, but that didn't stop the "killed by LSD" story, and Linkletter quickly became one of America's most prominent spokesmen for the War on Drugs. He was appointed to President Nixon's National Advisory Council for Drug Abuse Prevention. May Art have many more years of happiness ahead of him.
