    Sir Arthur Clarke is one of the greatest minds in living memory. The author of classic science fiction novels such as '2001: A Space Odyssey,' 'Childhood's End,' 'Rendezvous with Rama' and 'The Sentinel,' he is also credited with the invention of the communications satellite.



    Clarke is a commentator on scientific exploration, as well as on the ramifications for social progress. His books and stories been made into successful films. Clarke also took part in the commentaries for several documentaries.



    Clarke studied at King's College, and served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. He was knighted in 2000.
