  • One of the greatest writers in American drama.

I have read the play, Fences, and I must say that after doing so, I have to declare that August Wilson is one of the greatest Black writers in the history of Black American drama if not the greatest. His character, Troy Maxson, is by far the most memorable characters in the history of American drama since Willie Loman. Fences tells the story of a bitter black garbageman who used to play baseball in the Negro League, and blames his shortcomings on white racism as he ruins every life he gets into. August Wilson is clearly the Black Tennessee Wiliams.
