Betsy Russell, an American actress, was born Elizabeth Russell on September 6, 1964, in San Diego, California. Russell discovered a love of acting at an early age, appearing in school plays and several commercials. After graduating from high school, Russell moved to Los Angeles and enjoyed quick success as an actress. She appeared in several television shows such as Family Ties and T. J. Hooker before securing a role in the film Private School. The raunchy comedy launched Russell's career, and she worked steadily in the 1980s in a series of B-movies such as Avenging Angel, Tomboy and Out of Control. Her career dimmed in the late 1980s, however, and she was relegated to working almost exclusively in direct-to-video films. Her career enjoyed a renaissance in 2006 when she was cast in the hit horror franchise Saw. She appeared in four additional Saw films over the ensuing four years. Russell was married to actor Vincent Van Patten from 1989 until 2001.
