Bill Mumy: When you look at
Lost in Space, you almost have to look at it as three different series. The first 30 episodes were done in black and white and they're kind of an ensemble adventure, early sci-fi space family versus the unknown project. Then you get to the second batch, the middle batch, which is just high pop art, bright-colored campy fantasy and comedy. And the last batch is kind of a melding of the two, but getting more or less back into the adventure, kind of superhero-y mode, although it never lost its comedic sense once it found it.
