(about her theather experience)
Catalina: Yes, I did some theatre in a little company Off Off Off Broadway. It was a small part but it was my first time in theatre and it was Shakespeare. I was the Spanish princess Blanche in King John. I really respect theatre because you have to really be prepared and the audience isn't stupid. It scared me because it was also my first time acting in English.
(on her goals)
Catalina: I want to open a door for Latin actresses who want to be respected. I want to fight so that the generation hopefully coming behind me can enjoy the freedom to be a real person.
(about wearing confortable clothes)
Catalina: I'm about jeans and T-shirts. I don't use high heels.
(about doing the movie 'Maria Full of Grace')
Catalina: When I was doing Maria I never thought we were going to win awards, it was just a chance for me to get in front of the camera and show people what I could do.
(about her studying theather since a very young age)
Catalina: I was studying theater. When I was 13 years old, I began studying theater. Then I was studying advertising, but I've always studied theater. I was very shy and I'm like, 'Okay, I'm going to just jump into theater. That was my background in acting. I'd never done anything professionally in Colombia. To make this was a challenge, because I've never done anything like that.
Catalina: I think you use method when you're in trouble with a character. Not being prepared in New York for what would happen to our characters in Maria Full of Grace made us imagine and discover.
(about her love for the theather)
Catalina: I love theater. Theater is the most amazing thing ever. I want to keep learning and I think that by doing as much theater as I can, it will make me a better actress for film.
(about living and acting in her home country, Colombia)
Catalina: ...if you do theater in Colombia you'll die from hunger. Now I'm living in New York City. It's changed my whole point of view on everything. Being independent, having a little apartment, cooking. In Colombia you live with your parents until you're twenty-five and get a job and then get married.
