Chad has said the most important event of his life so far was the day he got his dog Joe.

Chad's biggest fear is bees.

If Chad was not an actor, he would have been a pediatrician.

When stationed in Japan while serving in the army, Chad's grandfather met and married a Japanese woman and eventually Chad's mother was born. Thus, he is a quarter Japanese.

When he was working on Dawson's Creek, Chad said that he identified most with the character Pacey, played by Joshua Jackson.

Chad has three brothers (Rex Jr., Brandon, and Nick), a half sister (Shannon), and one half brother (Tyler). Chad's mom left his family when he was only 10 years old, which he says helps him to relate to his character Lucas Scott on One Tree Hill. Chad's father is an air traffic controller.

Chad denies having a relationship with either Hilary Duff or Lindsay Lohan. According to him, his relationship with the two actresses has always been strictly platonic.

Chad proposed to Sophia Bush while they were filming the movie The House of Wax. He even asked her parents before he proposed. He used colored light bulbs to spell out, 'Will you marry me?' The engagement ring was a rare Australian pink and blue diamond. The couple married on April 16, 2005 in Santa Monica. They separated in October 2005 after only five months of marriage when Chad admitted to Sophia that he had cheated on her. In the divorce papers Sophia cited "Fraud" as the reason for anullment. Although Chad was upset about the break-up, he was determined to make things work on the set of One Tree Hill. While they were together, Chad said about Sophia, "She makes me a better man--and a little bit neater--and she's a phenomenal best friend."
