The final full scene that was filmed for The Sound of Music was the "Sixteen, Going on Seventeen" song and dance sequence. While shooting it, Charmian crashed through part of the glass on the gazebo and severely sprained her ankle. Fortunately, she wasn't cut too badly. Embarrassed by this, Charmian was determined to finish the scene and avoid disappointing the director. After she was given a shot for the pain and had her ankle wrapped in an Ace bandage, the make-up artists found a way to camouflage it with her nylons, and filming resumed. Charmian continued to dance extensively with an injured ankle, and when they were finished, she received a standing ovation. This was one of her proudest moments while making the film.
