  • Quotes

    • Slater: Rehab worked for me because I was ready to stop, move on and let it all go. If you're not, you'll just con, manipulate and deceive your way through the whole process, get out and go right back to where you left off. I knew I didn't want to feel that way any more. So I asked myself who I wanted to be. I made lists of all the things I could do to make me feel better about myself, things that I had never accomplished. Then, slowly, I began to tick them off. It was a very healing process.

    • Christian: (on his nickname while growing up) I dated a lot of women who called me Thumper. I don't know why.

    • (on how going to prison changed him)
Christian: It was a pretty clear-cut message that I had taken a wrong turn. In a way it was an incredible intervention. I was given an real opportunity to step outside my life. It brought everything into focus.

    • Christian: It's weird to watch movies I made when I was younger. I don't handle it well. It's like I need to take a shower after watching one. I think about where I was at the time and all that shit comes up in my head.

    • (on London theatre audiences)
Christian: London audiences are more attentive and really react to the moments in the play. London audiences also really know how to laugh and enjoy themselves. Swimming with Sharks has a lot of laughs in it and you hear the audiences' reaction every night. It's fantastic.

    • (on being in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in London)
Christian: I grew up in the theatre, started in the theatre, and when I got the opportunity to do this play last year I was a little worried because the movies were so popular. But it was actually my mother (Casting Director Mary Jo Slater) who said 'C'mon, screw it, just go out there, it s a great opportunity – to do something in the West End is the highest thing you can do as an actor', and fortunately I agreed with her and came over and did it. It was a phenomenal experience and it's been an equally if not more wonderful experience this time.

    • Christian Slater: I find that I am actually the happiest I ever am when I am with my kids.

    • Christian Slater: (revealing he still holds a flame for Winona Ryder) We crossed paths briefly in Sundance, but we don't speak on a regular basis. But I love her. I've never gotten over the crush I had on her then. She is still the woman of my dreams.

    • Christian Slater: People need something to fill their papers, and I'm happy to provide.

    • Christian Slater: Good judgement comes from experience. Sometimes, experience comes from bad judgement.

    • Christian Slater: (On people who accuse him of copying Jack Nicholson) If I make a move, like raise my eyebrows, some critic says I'm doing Nicholson. What am I supposed to do, cut off my eyebrows?
