In her teens, Kramer was on the staff of her high school newspaper. She was also a cheerleader, but got cut from the squad for refusing to sell hot dogs (because Clare is a staunch vegetarian) as part of a fund-raiser.

Clare has stated that she wanted to be a ballerina but decided to go into acting instead because of ballerina's strict diet. She stated that she could not give up her cheese.

Kramer has one younger sister, Callie, who has been a cheerleader and a competitive swimmer; she is now a lawyer. Clare credits Callie with being a great assist in researching and preparing for her roles in the movies Bring It On and The Skulls 3.
