Cliff Bemis Bio

Cliff Bemis is celebrating 36 years in show business as a working actor. An interesting career choice, in that he grew up on a rural, family dairy farm in Elyria, Ohio, After leaving the country life, Cliff first started working professionally in theatre while still in college, having had many years of experience in musical theatre and opera, as well as the related fields of commercial acting, which include jingle singing, voice-overs, on-camera and industrial films. He also starred in a production of "Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living in Paris," which ran for two and a half years, and is credited with saving the historic theatres in the Playhouse Square District of downtown Cleveland. In addition to his work as a "guest artist" at the Cleveland Play House for seven seasons, he was also a regular singer of our National Anthem for the Cleveland Indians, his beloved Cleveland Browns, as well as the Cleveland National Air Show. In fact, he has sung the National Anthem for many professional sports events throughout the USA and Canada.

In May of 2003, he was honored by Clearview High School as this years "Outstanding Alumnus." A 1970 graduate from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, Cliff was a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Honorary Society, and Alpha Tau Omega social Fraternity. And in 1998, he was honored with the Alumni Merit Award from his alma mater.

In 1987, while performing on stage together, Cliff met and became friends with actor Robby Benson (star of "One on One," and the voice of the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast,") and his wife actress/singer Karla DeVito. They encouraged Cliff to move to L.A., which he did, where he has continued to build upon his career.

Over the past 16 years in LA, Cliff has appeared on over 70 different TV shows including "The Huntress," "Providence," "Arliss," "Married With Children", "Dallas", "Newhart", "Beverly Hills 90210", "Cheers", "Coach", and "Murder She Wrote" to name a few, and was featured in the films "Pink Cadillac" with Clint Eastwood, "Distinguished Gentlemen" with Eddie Murphy, and "Naked Gun 2 1/2". He costarred in the UPN sitcom called "Reunited" starring Julie Hagerty of "Airplane" fame, and "Au Pair II" starring Gregory Harrison and June Lockhart. And he recently completed a successful run of a new musical titled "Songs From the Tall Grass" at the historic Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC.

Between 1989 and 1999, Cliff was the spokesperson for the IHOP restaurant chain. His personal appearances for IHOP took him all over the USA and Canada, where he autographed over 75,000 "Cliff at IHOP" pictures.

Cliff balances out his professional life with involvement in several different charity organizations which he feels particularly passionate about. A long time supporter of law enforcement, in particular the California Highway Patrol, he is a Lifetime Member in the CHP 11-99 Foundation, and is the only Honorary Member of the California Association of Highway Patrolmen. Cliff is on the Board of Directors for The Firefighters Quest for Burn Survivors, and he is an Honorary Deputy Sheriff in the Ventura County Sheriffs Department.

For ten years, Cliff has also done a week of volunteer work during the Christmas holidays at The White House, having met both Presidents and First Ladies Bush and Clinton on several different occasions.

Cliff's Christmas CD titled "Christmas Eve," featuring his vocal talents on the traditional music of the season, is always available through his Website. He also released a CD single, titled "The Badge of the CHP" which honors the men and women of the CHP. It is dedicated to his friend, CHP Officer Bruce T. Hinman, killed in the line of duty in 1995, leaving behind a wife and three young sons. In keeping with his commitment to his charity work, a portion of the proceeds from both CDs is donated to the CHP Widows and Orphans Fund, and the Firefighters Quest for Burn Survivors.

His latest CD release is titled "Hear My Prayer," and is an instrumental collection of favorite hymns. Recorded in his Studio City recording studio, Cliff recreated the sound of every instrument and sound on the CD. He is also working on another CD, this time featuring patriotic and "Americana" songs.
