Although David E. Kelley knew Constance from her audition for Boston Public, he didn't create the Claire Simms character with her in mind, so she has been able to bring her personal traits into the role.
Constance Zimmer: All I got was that this was a tough broad from New York, sarcastic and dry. I laugh about that all the time. Apparently, I'm really good at playing that, but I think I couldn't be farther from that in real life. Maybe because I'm not that, you can see her softer side come through.
