Birthplace:

Birth Name:
Konstantinos Demetrios Maroulis
Maroulis was born in Brooklyn to Greek parents, James Constantine Maroulis and Constance P. Maroulis (born 1938). Both maternal and paternal grandparents immigrated to the States from Greece in the 1920s. He was brought up in the Greek Orthodox religion. He can speak Greek. His older brother Athanasios Demetrios Maroulis (born 1964) is a record producer and his sister Anastacia P. Maroulis (born 1968) is a New York schoolteacher. They also have 20 cousins, one of whom being George Economos. Constantine "Gus" Economos died in the September 11, 2001 attacks from the fall of the World TradeMore Center. When Maroulis was five years old his family moved to Wyckoff, New Jersey, an affluent suburb of New York City, where he grew up. At that time he developed an interest in music, following his older brother's lead who was performing in professional bands and pursuing a career in the record business, and being influenced by the piano and records his family listened to[5]. By age eleven he was studying the trumpet at Eisenhower Middle School. He later sang in high school garage bands, including Lady Rain and Milkbone. In high school, he claims to have been shy and nerdy. Went by the name "Dean" and always sported a turtleneck. He graduated from Ramapo High School in 1993 and moved on to The Boston Conservatory of Music. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2002, majoring in musical theater with a minor in voice performance from Berklee College of Music.

He was in the cast recording of the 2000 musical, Suburban Dreams, which was produced by composer Stephen Thompson, Richard Kenner and Jesse Merz.

Some years before appearing on Idol, Maroulis competed on the dating show Elimidate and was an extra in NBC's Law and Order: SVU and the WB's Astro Boy.

He has a cavalcade of off-Broadway roles from the Conservatory, along with a series of independent films. After graduating the Conservatory, Maroulis trained as a director's apprentice at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts and toured in the Broadway international touring company of Rent as the lead role Roger Davis[9]. His role as Roger was non- equity. Since he had no agent representing him, he was allowed to appear on American Idol. As of 2006, Maroulis is now represented by the Creative Artists Agency.

The most historical American Idol Star...At least in MY book! hide show

This is one fired up guy! Why? He can sing! He can dance! And I am sure he could act if he put his mind, heart, and soul into it! This man captivated many people...I call these people The Audience. They can boo you or cheer you on. Inspire them! Hold your head up high and give The Audience an encore, just like Constantine Maroulis! If Constantine was an anime character, he would be a shinobi of the Hidden Sand Village of the popular anime and manga known as Naruto. To wrap up this review, here's a trivia question. How far into the American Idol contest did Constantine Maroulis make it?

Constantine, You've come a long way baby! hide show

I've been watching this star since his major debut on AI. I was then made aware of his other TV show appearances on crime dramas and date shows as well as theatre shows. He is so mulit-talented and is one to keep and eye out for.
I really liked him with his NY city band and went to three of their shows after AI. I never thought I'd be one to follow the Idol's on tour, but I did just to see him. What a fabulous showman! You think that you enjoy watching him on TV, well then a real treat is seeing him live. What energy!

    9.5 Superb
Constantine Maroulis is the most versatile and exciting entertainer to grace a stage in years. His vocals are strong and versatile, his music passionate and his energy lights up any stage he steps onto. Just ask his many-flavored fans who travel from far hide show

I recently flew across the country to attend Constantine's U.S. solo debut in his home State of New Jersey. I arrived to find the most diverse group of music-lovers imagineable..standing in a freezing wind outside the Starland Ballroom waiting for the chance to get up close and personal with the singer who had managed to reel us all into his world.
Here we were, families with youngsters (like the 5 yr old who can sing every note and word of Bohemian Rhapsody right along with his Dad and Constantine), middle schoolers, teens sporting their favorite Broadway show shirts, women and men of all (and I mean ALL) age groups and musical tastes, and me...a 61 yr old semi-retired foreign language teacher finally loosed from the chains of a role-model classroom life, free to rock out with the best of the young-at-heart!
We were not disappointed! From the high-energy opening 6-song set of classic rock songs, to Christmas ballads, to a medley of songs from his lead Broadway roles, to an eclectic set of American Idol favorites, Constantine rocked us all, backed by an outstanding 8 piece band.
The mom next to me who told me before the curtain opened "I'm only here chaparoning my daughter", left as hoarse as the rest of us..and a new Constantine fan with her parting words: "I had no idea he could SING like that! I think he's the best performer I've ever seen!" And I could not disagree with her.
