Cory:(On his impression of Glee) I'd compare it to Fame meets the movie Election, with a bit of Freaks and Geeks on the side. Most common misconception is that this is trying to rip off High School Musical! Quite the contrary, as this show really isn't a musical at all. It's a comedy show with singing. Rules apply to when you can sing and dance, which keeps the tone of the show realistic.
Cory:(On what song he'd like to have on Glee) "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams. That's a shout out, because Bryan Adams is the man and is Canadian and I'm hoping that Ryan Murphy will read this and write it into the show. It's epic right?
Cory: I love big shooting days, with crane shots and hundreds of people on set. That's really exciting.. Shooting in LA for the first time has been really exciting for me too!
Cory:(On if he is similar to his character in Glee) Well, I'm not 17 or from Ohio, or play on the football team or date cheerleaders, etc... But Finn and I share a certain kind of vulnerability. And Virtue.
Cory: (About singing in Glee) Singing? I've never done anything. Seriously, up to this point, I wouldn't even go karaoking with my friends. I would never sing in front of people because I was so sensitive about it. Isn't that ironic? Now I'm singing in front of America.
Cory:(About high school) I spent as little time as I possibly could there. That's kinda what I was like in high school. I wasn't a big scholastic book nut. I think I liked self-guided studies. I was on correspondence for a while. I think taking my own cues.
Cory: (On his signing in Glee) You've just got to focus on what you're doing, not that America is going to see you in the shower.
Cory: I don't need to be wildly famous for my life to make sense. I guess I'm kind of happy where I'm at, and I take whatever comes and it's a good thing. So I think what I've already been given, as far as being able to do these shows, is such a blessing. It's really cool to be able to do it. It's not a job that a whole lot of people get to do. It's a lot easier than construction.
Cory:(About working in roofing) You know it really wasn't all that bad. I kind of liked it. You got to work with your hands, and it feels like you're accomplishing something concrete every day. I think being in the creative arts can be abstract sometimes. The construction is quite concrete.
Cory:(On how he knew he wanted to act) It actually found me. I was at a loose end, and someone suggested that it would be something that I should take a look at, and pretty much offered me free acting classes. On a whim, I was so like "this might be cool", I was skeptical at first. I don't really see myself doing community theatre, so I really don't know why I would take acting classes, you know what I mean? I was 20, and it just sort of jumped in my lap, I just ran into someone who knew an acting teacher and he referred me to classes. It was suggested to me that I had potential and if I were to pursue it, then I could probably be successful. I had nothing else going on in my life whatsoever at that point; I was a roofer, I was a cab driver. I was doing nothing, right, so I just completely pursued it. I just moved to Vancouver to pursue it.
Cory: I just officially settled in LA, and I'm giving up the place in Vancouver... A little scary, but it sure looks like I'll be here a lot more than in Canada!
Cory: FOX taught me how to sing and dance
Cory: I keep a pretty low profile. I live in Culver City with some roommates. I don't do the whole 'Hollywood' thing. I don't think too much is going to change. If people are taking pictures of me at Starbucks, it's not the end of the world. It's cool, it's fun, it's exciting.
Cory: (On comparing Glee to High School Musical) How do I put this? Glee is like High School Musical if High School Musical had its stomach punched and its lunch money stolen.
Cory: (About his audition for Glee) I ignored the fact that they wanted a tape of me singing and dancing because it's not my strong suit, so I just sent the acting. Of course, I had to send the rest anyways. I sent a tape of myself singing REO Speedwagon's "Can't Fight This Feeling," but I did it like an '80s music video where I'm all looking out into the distance. It was really cheesy.
