D.L. Hughley (pronounced "HUE-glee") was born on March 6, 1963 in Los Angeles, California. A former member of the L.A. gang The Bloods, he reformed himself after the murder of his cousin, who was a member of a rival gang. After encouragement by friends and family he entered a stand-up comedy contest.


Hughley was the very first host of BET's "ComicView." He also appeared on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam". In 1998, he was given his very own sitcom, "The Hughley's", which aired on ABC. The series was based upon his own experiences moving into a predominately white suburb. He


More can be seen on Comedy Central starring in his late-night talk show, "Weekends at the DL." His one-hour comedy special, "Shocked and Appalled," also airs on the network. His latest work is on the NBC show "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He portrays Simon Stiles a Yale School of drama graduate and one of the three sketch show stars.


Hughley has also crossed over into movies, co-starring in "The Brothers" (2001) and voicing the Gadgetmobile in the big screen adaptation of the cartoon "Inspector Gadget" (1999). It was the incredibly successful film "The Original Kings of Comedy" that launched him into stardom. He also had supporting roles in "Chasing Papi" (2003), "Scary Movie 3" (2003), and "Soul Plane" (2004). He currently hosts the weekly comedy/talk show "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News" (2008) on CNN.


Hughley has been married to LaDonna since 1986. They have three children. Two daughters, Ryan Nicole and Tyler Whitney and a son named Kyle Aaris.

    Kind of funny. hide show

    I do not really think he is as funny as many people think he is. Sometimes I have to force myself to laugh at his jokes. That isn't often as I think he is not the funniest. I wish he was a better actor, but I think he is juts okay. I think from what I have seen from him, he is better suited for comedy rather than drama. I must say that he is very much a laugh when he doesn't try to be funny at all. Overall, he is an okay person, but he should be funnier and better. Thank you.
