Mays was raised in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, by his electrician father and bank cashier mother and is one of four. He attended the Italia Conti stage school before going on to win a place at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Since graduating from RADA in 2000 May's has appeared in a number of supporting roles ranging from bit parts in soaps like Eastenders to playing a pilot in Pearl Harbour (2001).

His most notable role, as a young heroin addict released from jail, in the improvised BBC drama Rehab landed him the Best Actor Award at the Palmare-Reims Television



More Festival in 2003.

He has starred in shows for BBC3 (BBC Three's Funland, Channel Four (Plus One) and MTV (Top Buzzer).

He has since landed himself appearances in films such as Atonement (2007), and White Girl and The Bank Job (both 2008).

In addition to his TV and film work, Mays has also starred in six stage plays at London's Royal Court Theatre which include Ladybird, Motortown, The Winterling and Scarborough.

In 2009 his appearance in the independent British movie Shifty won him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the British Independent Film Awards.

He has a young son, Mylo Burton-Mays, and lives in Crouch End, North London.
