I watched Boston Legal a lot in Season 1, and have lost track of it. I'm planning on renting Seasons 2 and 3...what I saw, I liked. The Practice never appealed to me until James Spader came on in Season 8 and shook up the dynamic. He's definitely one of the best actors on TV and has a great character in Alan Shore. Ally McBeal (IMO) got too silly and stayed on the air too long. Once Peter MacNicol went part-time, the show lost one of its best characters. Boston Public was another Kelley show I liked at first, but it too stayed on the air a little too long. He has a tendency to be too preachy, but he writes "quirky" better than just about any other writer out there. Plus, dude's married to Michelle Pfifer.
