David suffered from achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism that stunts the arms and legs, while allowing the trunk to grow.
David attained a degree in psychology and worked briefly as a schoolteacher.
David Rappaport was the first dwarf actor to ever have a television show "of his own". It was entitled The Wizard and aired on CBS during the 1986-87 season.
As a child, David learned to play both the drums and accordion. While working to pay for his education at the University of Bristol, he played the drums semiprofessionally.
Afflicted with dwarfism, David was 3'11".
David: But being small hasn't stopped me from doing anything I've ever wanted to do. The only problem I have is with elevator buttons.
David: I was the dwarf who turned down Star Wars.
(commenting on a previous job as a cemetery gardener)
David: It's a very healthy job, and the clients never complain.
(in reference to a prior job of making children's shoes on a production line)
David: I always wanted to work with children, but this isn't quite what I had in mind.
(from the first newsletter of David Rappaport's fan club in October 1987)
David: Well, in this very first newsletter of the David Rappaport Fan Club, I would like to thank you all for the amazing love and support you gave me while I was doing The Wizard.
David Rappaport: It was the worst possible time to become an actor. I had a wife and a kid. But it seemed now or never, so I went with it.
