When Derek Nimmo was struggling to earn a living as an young actor, he and his new wife Patricia found themselves living in a caravan that was parked in a car park just off the Edgware Road in London's West End. However, when he was touring he was able to drive a 1937 Buick car he had bought for just £37.

BBC News quotes that Derek Nimmo went into acting purely by chance because he fell in love with a young girl who tried to get him to buy tickets for her amateur theatrical production in which she was actually starring! Not only did he sign up with the theatre company but he also married the girl - and stayed married for 43 years. "She was frightfully pretty so I joined the company," he once recalled.
