Birth Name

Derek Waters

Newcomer Derek Waters was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. At the urging of a high school buddy, he tried out in a production of Fiddler on the Roof. He won a part with only three lines — but was immediately hooked. That led to the lead role in Our Town the following year.

After high school, he studied with the famed comedy stage, Second City, in Toronto, Canada. This soon led Derek to Second City in Los Angeles, where he still performs.

His first TV appearance was on Spin City, where he met comedy writer Tom Hertz, who is currently executive producer of Married to the Kellys. Some of Derek's other credits include The District and That 80s Show.

Derek says he feels blessed to be part of the "TGIF" lineup, which he grew up with, as he and his family watched such shows as Full House and Family Matters.

Derek's hobbies include music, film and comedy. He is single and currently lives in Los Angeles.
