  • Dori was an actress out of her natural habitat -- the 1930s.

She would have been a star in the thirties. A genuine competitor to Joan Blondell. She had the look, the attitude, the affinity for the period. If you walked into the kitchen of of her West Hollywood duplex, you'd find (really) Bette Davis doing the dishes. Another day, you'd find Silvia Sidney there (but not doing the dishes). TV and movies never found the right space for her. She was more at home onstage, where I think she did her best work. Still, TV-wise, her Cassie and Co. work, and the next-door neighbor in The Charmings are pretty darn worth watching.
