Doris Day

Doris day is truley a great icon i love all her films especially calamity jane,i also love the films with Doris & Rock hudson,she is the best actress of all time and always will be,i think its great what she is doing with her animal foundations and all the great support behind her,i hope she has many more happy years.

Doris Mary Ann Von Kappelhoff. If you take away the von, it was the name of her 1971 CBS special that came on the heels of "The Doris Day Show," featuring a youthful 47 year-old blonde with the radiance of a child as she bounced on a bicycle and riding with young kids and even some policemen. And, yes, the knee-socks. Doris loved to wear knee socks when riding the bike or walking the dog. She had been wearing knee-highs in movies and TV since "It Happened to Jane" (1959), she was never ashamed to turn the clock back. Anyway, the movies with Gordon McRae were memorable fare for Warner Brothers in the early 50's. My personal favorite was "On Moonlight Bay." Then came "Calamity Jane," which introduced the Academy Award- winning tune, "Secret Love." Her appearance in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much" opposite Jimmy Stewart was enhanced by her singing "Que, Sera, Sera(Whatever Will Be)!" Another hit song of the '50's, nominated for an Oscar. And let's not forget the pairing of Doris and Rock Hudson beginning with "Pillow Talk" (1959), then "Lover, Come Back" (1961), and, finally, "Send Me No Flowers" (1964)...all classics. After her last film in 1968, Doris went into TV with her sitcom on CBS and survived the bankruptcy that her late husband, Marty Melcher, had put her through when he spent all of her money earned from movies made and records recorded over the years. Doris has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame...one for her music career and the other for her movie career...a rare double honor. For someone from Cincinnati who survived a train accident that injured her legs, ending her dream of being a dancer, an abusive first marriage, a manipulative, devastating last marriage, and the loss of her only child, Doris Day can be grateful that she is still standing as a senior citizen with her animal rights campaign still going strong. The Girl Next Door still lives among us...thankfully!!!

Doris Day is my all time number 1 idol. I think that she is an amazingly talented actress. She is one of the few actresses of her time that didn't demoralise herself e.g Marilyn Monroe etc. Her films with Rock Hudson are fantastic rom coms but she is also fantastic in the lesser known 'Love me or leave me'. Her talents are far more widespread than movie actresses today and I really admire her for it.
