Ed Marinaro

Initially his tenure on Hill Street Blues was suppose to be short term. At the end of the first, his character was shot and was suppose to die but the producers decided to make him a regular. So he recovered in returned in the second season. When he left the show after 5 seasons, his character was shot and this time died.

Ed held the NCAA career rushing record in the early 1970s; he broke the previous record while playing fewer games than his predecessor (Steve Owens) due to Ivy League rules that restricted teams to shorter schedules. He was also a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy in 1971, finishing second behind quarterback Pat Sullivan of Auburn. His career average of 174.6 rushing yards per game is still the NCAA record.
