Born of Swedish and Italian heritage, Edie has 'the arts' in her blood. She is the daughter of an art director and an actor, and the niece of fiction writer Ed Falco. Edie attended and graduated from the acting program at the State University of New York at Purchase. Soon she was appearing in small roles in films such as "Copland" and "Bullets Over Broadway", and in the HBO series "Oz". In 1999, she got a huge break when she was offered the part of Carmela Soprano on the soon-to-explode HBO drama, "The Sopranos". For her complex and layered portrayal of a gangster's wife, Edie received well-deserved critical accolades and many awards. Edie went through her own personal drama when she was diagnosed with, and recovered from, breast cancer. As of 2010, Edie has two children and resides in New York.
