Emma Stone has come along way since her break out in Superbad, and last fall's teen flick, Easy A, which earned her glowing reviews.
Thanks to Easy A, the newcomer says, she is playing Peter Parker's girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, in the Amazing Spider-Man film reboot out next summer. But let's consider this summer, first.
The pitch: Crazy, Stupid, Love
Crazy, Stupid, Love will have far fewer Spider-Man special-effects moments, but word is that Stone shines yet again. In it, the actress plays a woman who resists the charms of a playboy (Ryan Gosling).
This unnerves the ladies' man while he's in the middle of teaching all the right moves to a suburban sad sack (Steve Carell) whose wife (Julianne Moore) has just cheated on him.
Hit or miss? How about Stone-cold funny?
The pitch: The Help
More seriously, Stone plays an aspiring writer in the period piece, The Help. It's based on Kathryn Stockett's bestselling book profiling African-American maids and the white families who counted on them in 1960s Mississippi.
Also co-starring are Bryce Dallas Howard, Sissy Spacek, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis and Allison Janney.
Hit or miss? Help fans will help themselves and the box office.
