Esther Rolle is most recognized from her role as "Florida Evans," the outspoken maid on the television series "Maude" and "Good Times." She made her acting debut in 1964 in the role of a church woman in the film "Nothing But a Man." Esther went on to appear in many television series, including episodes of "The Bold Ones: The Senators" in 1971, "One Life to Live" in 1971 and "Touched by an Angel" in 1997. Esther also appeared in several television movies, including her role as Momma Sykes in "See China and Die" (1981) and Mrs. Baker in "Age-Old Friends" (1989). Her film appearances include "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" in 1982 and "Driving Miss Daisy" in 1989. In 1979, Esther received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or a Special for her role in "Summer of My German Soldier."
