Esther Williams is youngest child of Louis & Bula Williams. Esther was practically brought up by her older sister Maurine because her Mother wanted to live life rather than raise a fifth child. It was her sister Maurine who also taught her how to swim. She also had two brothers, Stanton (A child actor who died at sixteen when Esther was eight) & David, & another sister named June. At age seventeen Esther won three gold medals at the 1939 National Swimming Championships & was invited to the Pan American games of 1940 but her swimming coach didn't tell her that she had been selected. Needless… More to say once she found out she had missed the Pan Am Games she fired her coach & begun to train even harder for the Olympics of 1940, but the Olympics were cancelled because of the war.
