The audition for Avril Lavigne's band was not going very well so he borrowed someone else’s guitar, and after playing few riffs, the management wanted to sign a contract with him as the lead guitarist and the backup singer. [edit]
At Avril Lavigne's band audition, the lead guitarist had already been selected, so Evan auditioned for a position as the drummer and the bass guitarist. [edit]
Evan received a 5 songs demo CD of Avril Lavigne and was told to learn it in only 3 days. [edit]

Before playing in Avril's band, Evan used to be called "Evan David" instead of "Taubenfeld". But since he joined Avril for a more professional career, he decided to take up his real last name, "Taubenfeld".

Amid rumours of a relationship gone sour with Avril Lavigne, Evan left the band in September 2004, to pursue his own projects. [edit]
Evan also co-wrote the songs "Freak Out" and "Take Me Away", and was in the studio with Avril Lavigne to record backing vocals, guitars, and drums on two of the tracks (he didn't record anything on "Take Me Away"). [edit]
In June 2003, while on the road with Avril he formed another band — a side project called Ditch Ruxton. Their first show took place at a Baltimore, Maryland night club called Fletcher's. The band split after less than a year, and never performed a second show. [edit]
In fall 2002, Evan received a call from the Vice-President of Artists and Repertoire for Arista Records, who was seeking people to audition in New York with new artist, Avril Lavigne. [edit]
Evan graduated from McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland in June 01, and intended to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he had been accepted to the previous fall. [edit]
