Fernando Alonso has always been fast since he joined F1. Pushing the limits of his Minardi back in 2001. It was only time until he got a great car anf showcased his true skill.
From 2003-2006 Fernando raced for Renault and in the first couple of years they were quick but not up there with Ferrari or McLaren. His breakthrough win at Hungry in 2003 signaled the start of something big.
2005 season saw Renault produce a great car and Fernando was able to steer it to quiet a few victories. He did have a bit of luck on his side due to McLarens poor reliability.
2006 was another great season for Fernando and Renault. He thought all the way till the end against the greatest driver of all time Michael Schumacher. Which is surely the greatest test of skill a driver could have.
2007 hasn't been as fantastic for Fernando. His move to McLaren definetly came at the right time because they have the best car on the grid. But hot new Rookie Lewis Hamilton has shown him up on more then a few occasions and currently leads him in the championship.
Fernando has made some rookie mistakes such as runs through the grass at the first corner, so it appear that he may be losing his edge.
He is definetly one of the best drivers still in Formula One and the most sucessful by far but can he stand up to Lewis Hamilton. We will wait and see.
For me Fernando's greatest race ever would be Imola 2005. He held off a charging Schumacher who was almost 1.5 seconds a lap faster. That was a brilliant display of driving talent.
