Frank Nelson, a funny character and one of the most recognized voices in broadcasting, began in radio in the 1920s. He was on all the big radio shows in the golden age, including 38 years on the Jack Benny show on radio and TV.
He was a major founding figure in AFTRA. In 1954 he helped establish the first pension and welfare plan for freelance performers in the broadcasting industry. He was still active as a Senior Trustee of the union when he died in his home after a long battle with cancer.
