GEORGE was a performer on the Vaudeville stage and began his movie career in the 20's, usually playing a bad guy. He then became a good guy in many of the JOHN WAYNE westerns of the 30's. He went on to play the comic sidekick for WILLIAM BOYD (HOPALONG CASSIDY) and ROY ROGERS and others. He was originally credited as GEORGE HAYES, but later this was changed to GABBY HAYES. During the 50's he had his own TV show.
