Gene Barry: (on appearing in the 1953 film "The War of the Worlds") It was just acting to special effects all over the place. We never knew where we were in that. The director would say, at this point this monster or whatever special effect - react to it. You didn't know if the special effect was going to be good. It so happened that they were and it won the Academy Award for Special Effects that year. No, that wasn't my favorite picture. As an actor, what would you do in a picture like that, run and react.

Gene Barry: (on returning to TV as Amos Burke in 1994) I know this will sound immodest, but viewers missed me and have been waiting for me. I haven't been on TV much for the last 20 years, but that was my fault. I just never found parts that I really liked.

Gene Barry: As someone who grew up in the Depression, he leads the kind of life I fantasized about. Who wouldn't want to be Amos Burke when they grew up?

Gene Barry: My earliest dreams were of acting, and I have never considered anything else.
