Geoffrey Palmer is a British actor born June 4, 1927 in London, England. Palmer is well-known to British television audiences for the many television shows he has appeared on over the years. A few of these shows also ran in the US on PBS stations. Palmer began his acting career with an amateur dramatics society. Later he toured with a repertory company eventually appearing on the West End. In 1974 he appeared in the play Eden End directed by Sir Laurence Olivier.. In the 1960s he started appearing on television in such shows as The Avengers, The Saint and Falty Towers. Palmer later became a regular on two well-received sitcoms, Butterflies and The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. He appeared in the long-running sitcom As Time Goes By with Judi Dench from 1992 to 2005. He also appeared with Dench in the Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies. Other films include A Fish Call Wanda. Palmer continues to act and also does voice over work for commercials and for audiobooks. In 2004 he was appointed the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth for services in the arts.
