Glenn Strange was born in Weed, New Mexico. His father was a bartender and later a rancher. Glenn started playing the fiddle at cowboy dances when he was 12. He began in radio in El Paso in 1928, and came to Hollywood and CBS-Radio in 1930 as a member of the Arizona Wranglers after appearing at a rodeo in Prescott, Arizona. He made his first film in 1932 and literally appeared in hundreds of films, mostly westerns. He appeared in three Frankenstein films. In the first Lone Ranger TV show episode he was 'Butch Cavendish', who wiped out all of the Texas Rangers, but one. He appearedMore in the role on the series several times, although he also appeared in other roles in the series. He first appeared on Gunsmoke in 1959 and appeared in several episodes in character roles before joining the series in 1961, as 'Sam Noonan' the Long Branch Saloon bartender. He was 6 feet 5 and 220 pounds, and married to the same lady for 36 years, and had one daughter. He died in 1973 of lung cancer in Los Angeles, California.
