Greta graduated from Xavier High School in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1972.
She is an avid golfer.
She is married to Washington, D.C. lawyer John Coale.

Greta is of Irish ancestry on her mother's side and of Dutch, French and German on her father's side.

Greta: I love my sister, ... She's smart and I hope she wins. And, since she is older, I take orders from her, not the other way around.
Greta: I am a citizen fed up with the way the country is headed, ... While they may be well intentioned, I have lost my confidence that the professional politicians can turn things around. The U.S. Senate needs to be shaken up, and I am not afraid to do it.
Greta: I'm always happy when the viewers are happy... I obviously don't program for the people in the newsroom or my friends or the people I went to law school with. I program for the viewers.
Greta: Unfortunately, this is a free society, and we're gonna have people with trucks, and people with bombs.
