Harriet Sansom Harris was born on January 8, 1955 in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. She got involved in acting as a youngster. At her age of seventeen, she was accepted at New York's famed Juilliard School. Upon graduation, Harris joined The Acting Company, a repertory group formed by the first alumni of John Houseman's Drama Division of The Juilliard School. She spent three years with them. During those three years, she performed in productions of Shakespeare's King Lear and Romeo and Juliet, the classic Antigone, Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and HerMore Children alongside Frances Conroy. Harris went on to do extensive work on and off-broadway including a 1989 performance at Second Stage Theatre in What a Man Weighs. She also performed in Jeffrey which actually led to many guest appearences in TV shows, recurring roles and she was also a star in many shows.

Soon, Harriet appeared in TV shows like Frasier as agent Bebe Glazer, The Five Mrs. Buchanans, and she was known as Felicia Tilman, the misterious sister of Martha Huber on ABC's hit show Desperate Housewives and she appeared in The X-Files, Ally McBeal, Ghost Whisperer etc. Actually, her shows weren't so successful, but the roles that she had as a guest star or recurring role were memorable. She has also appeared in several movies like Moonlight Serenade, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Memento, Show & Tell, Addams Family Values etc. In 2006, she appeared as Vera Charles in the Kennedy Center's production of Mame . Harriet will also appear as Amanda Wingfield in the production of The Glass Menagerie at the Guthrie Theater.

Harriet calls New York her home, but she frequently travels to California for film and television appearances.
