Howard Culver was born in Colorado on June 4,1918, and raised in Los Angeles. He began in radio while in his teens. He served three years in the Navy during World War II. He then resumed his radio career, he was on the radio Gunsmoke series, and was radio's last Ellery Queen. He starred in the "Straight Arrow" radio series. He lost his hearing in the mid-50's and ran a hobby shop for seven years until he had a successful ear operation. He was a semi-regular on the series "Gunsmoke" through it's entire 20 year run on TV. Somtimes as character parts, but mostly as Howie Uzzell, the Dodge House Hotel clerk. He died August 4, 1984 while on vacation in Hong Kong.
