Canadian-born character actor Jack Kruschen began performing in television dramas as early as 1939 on Don Lee's experimental station in Los Angeles, seen on about 200 sets with three inch screens. While in high school he began performing on radio, landing regular or recurring roles on Broadway Is My Beat and Pete Kelly's Blues, and appearing in guest roles on numerous other programs. On television he was frequently cast in ethnic roles, often as the volatile but lovable patriarch, other times as a villain. He also appeared in several movies, receiving an Oscar nomination forMore Best Supporting Actor in Billy Wilder's The Apartment. He was married to Marjorie Ullman from 1947 until their divorce in 1951, and to Mary Pender from 1979 until his death in Chandler, Arizona on April 2, 2002.
