James Purefoy

I have great respect for James. He is a wonderful actor, fabulous on stage as well as on TV and film. Very versatile but best in period drama like Dance to the Music of Time, Rome (sexy and menacing as Mark Antony) and Vanity Fair. very charming and accomodating in person too. I saw him in Exonerated a few years ago and he had a very convincing Texas accent and great stage presence. More recently he is appearing in Flare Path at the Theatre Royal haymarket to a very appreciative audience. His peter Kyle has both pathos and sensitivity in spite of his lack of morality. Watch him really suffer in Solomon Kane, or swordfight in ironclad and George and the Dragon, or turn on the charm in Women Talking Dirty and Maybe Baby. He always stands out even in mediocre programmes and films!

Though I have seen him a feature film and once or twice on television it seems as though he is becoming most well known for his role as Mark Anthony, on HBO's Rome (which I have just recently become a fan of). And I gotta say that even though I adore him and he is an excellent actor he plays one jerk of a guy. I mean Mark Anthony is self serving, intimidating, snake in the grass, and an all around rude kind of guy. But I guess that says a lot about James himself that he can play such a sort of dislikable character and yet a lot of people still like the character. He defenitely brings a sense of charm and sensuality to Mark Anthony and he's got this great commanding on screen prescence. He defenitely doesn't seem like a Mark Anthony type and yet he plays him so well.

The first time I saw James Purefoy was in HBO's hit historical drama Rome in which he plays Marc Antony. I was amazed by his good looks and his way of acting. He's trained at the Royal Sheakspeare Company and everytime he gives strong performances helped by his charm. With Mira Nair's Vanity Fair, he reached the international acclaim for his portrait of Rawdon Crawley. He was tested for Goldeneye to become the next James Bond but unfortunately he was too young for that part. I think James would be good as the new Bond, because of his dark and classy looks
