Jan Smithers bears a scar on her chin that dates back to when, as a teenager, she swerved the car she was driving to avoid one that had run a stop sign. Her car hit a telephone pole and her face hit the steering wheel: hence the injury that caused the scar. It also is noted that many Hollywood Directors have stated she lost opportunities at several other roles because of the scar on her chin which made her looks less than perfect.
