    • Jay had to undergo an angioplasty for a clogged artery after he felt ill while covering the 2007 Allstate Sugar Bowl.

    • While Jay worked at the Rocky Mountain News, he received death threats after he called Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway "a greedy and scared punk."

    • Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen used a homosexual slur to describe Mariotti. Ozzie had to undergo sensitivity training for his choice of words. He eventually apologized for the use of the word, but not for his treatment of Jay.
