Jessica: (on doing "Cloverfield") It was definitely more physical than anything I had ever done before, and more than I expected. I think reading it, it sounds really cool but then you start doing it, you realize how hard it is. Kudos to action stars. The movie was enough for me for a while.
Jessica: You'd have to dig pretty deep to get out of Canada. When I tell people [at home] I'm an actress, no one is impressed. (laughs) I tell them, 'But I was in a movie with Amanda Bynes!
Jessica: I sometimes feel more comfortable in other people's skins. I do like entering other people's lives. There's been something in me since I was a kid -- the only place I felt at home was in front of the camera.
Jessica: I never really liked school very much. And I was never the person to take the safe route in life. The thing that everyone else was doing? I usually wasn't doing that.
Jessica: (on what makes her stand out) Maybe it's because I don't look like a lot of other people. I'm half black and half white. So maybe not a lot of people quite have the same look that I do. I don't know, really. But whatever it is, I'm sure not going to question it. That's the last thing you want to do when things are going well.
Jessica: Actors are sometimes a little bit crazy, and I'm not like that at all. I don't have any skeletons [in my closet]. I do the job and I go home and live my life. What you see is what you get with me.
Jessica: (on being part of "Cloverfield") We all signed onto the movie not knowing anything about it. So yeah, as an actor that's always scary because you have absolutely no idea what you've agreed to do, but when you have someone like JJ Abrams, who's a mastermind behind all these great shows -- he doesn't do bad stuff -- you just have to trust that they know what they're doing, and I think you'd have to be an idiot not to do the movie.
Jessica: I think I have less opportunities than some of my friends. Just as a woman, there's not as many strong female roles as you would like. Then add to that being an ethnic woman, and there's even fewer. But I'm not the kind of person to think, Oh, woe is me.
