John Kapelos is a Canadian actor. He was born in London, Ontario, on 8 March 1956. Before moving into films and television he acted on stage with The Second City Touring Company, including in a well received off-Broadway production of Orwell That Ends Well. His film career started with bit parts in Violent Streets and Tootsie, but his first real break came when he played Rudy in John Hughes' Sixteen Candles. Hughes later cast him in as the janitor in The Breakfast Club, and as Dino in Weird Science. Kapelos' other film roles include Roxanne, Nothing in Common, The Boost, and The Relic. His television credits include Street Legal, Quantum Leap, Home Improvement, The West Wing, and Just Cause. He also played Detective Don Schanke in Forever Knight from 1989-1995, for which he wrote one episode. In 2011 he wrote, produced, narrated, and composed music for The Immortals, a documentary about Colonel Robert Murphy. Kapelos speaks fluent Greek.
