I have TiVo'd some musical passages from John Keane's "CSI" background music just to hear them again and again. He has his own website, but it says nothing about him, so I need to do some more research. I think background music -- other than music by popular artists -- is highly underrated and should get more attention. Years ago, Jan Hamer's score for "Miami Vice" rated his own CD, but I think lately, these musicians are underappreciated. I recently bought a "CSI" original soundtrack, which consisted of 80% music from other artists that were just used in the background, and 20% of Mr. Keane's original music, made just for that show. It is so good, it can stand on its own. For me, Mr. Keane conjurs up Benjamin Britten, Michael Praetorius, Ralph Vaughn Williams and some other greats. I hear the same chord patterns in his works that I love in these other guys' pieces. Some of his music can move me to tears or make me smile. John Keane is a very versatile guy, and incredibly talented. He often makes an otherwise so-so episode memorable.
