Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, John Mayer grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut, the second of three sons. There, he became friends with future tennis star James Blake. Mayer attended Fairfield High School (now Fairfield Warde High School) for his freshman, sophomore, and senior year, but attended Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Connecticut for his junior year, where he was enrolled in the Center for Global Studies. Then known as the Center for Japanese Studies Abroad, it is a magnet program for students in Fairfield County wanting to learn Japanese.



… More Mayer listened to pop music, but it was not until the age of thirteen that his inspiration for playing the guitar began, and his father rented one for him. On Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Mayer confessed that he had played the clarinet for a while in grammar school, with minor success.

Generally, it was believed that Mayer's father, a Bridgeport High School principal, had given him a confiscated tape player that contained an album by Stevie Ray Vaughan. However, Mayer, in an 2006 interview on the New Zealand show, Close Up, said the cassette was given to him by a neighbor, sparking Mayer's love of the blues. After two years of practice, he started playing at blues bars and other venues in the area. While in high school, he was in a band called Villanova Junction with Joe Beleznay, Tim Procaccini, and Rich Wolf.

When Mayer was seventeen, he was suddenly stricken with a cardiac arrhythmia that sent him to the hospital for a weekend. The trauma of the incident sparked his songwriting, and he penned his first lyrics the night he got home. Shortly thereafter, he began suffering from crippling panic attacks and even now he keeps Xanax (an anti-anxiety drug) with him, just in case.

Now, at the age of 29, Mayer has already had a successful career. He has sold over three million albums and won six Grammy awards.

    I love his music.

    This guy is one of the most talented musicians of my age. John Mayer is one of my favorite singers and arguably one of the best in the business today. I love his music and my favorite song of his is probably Edge of Desire. It has such a great sound and the his lyrics are amazing as well. Unbelievable guy. He'll continue to be a success until he retires.

    seriously john mayer is an artist, 9 grammys? (did I get that right?) and also he rocks jennifer a. obviously at the oscars it was very plainly clear they were connected as in they actually relate to each other which is a very positive thing. not a novel idea between people but you have to admit there are a lot of train wrecks out there who just are connected. you see them walking around and there is nothing else offered. seriously, john mayer has the goods in store and delivers awesome music and awesome presence and he does not take himself all seriously. in other words he has that element, that spark, that goes beyond the cardboard hype. nice work. look forward to the upcoming release!

    John Mayer is a singer best known for his hit "Waiting On The World To Change". hide show

    This awesome guy, you will definately find on my Favorites list. I love his voice. John's full name is: John Clayton Mayer. In the past, he has dated celebrities like: Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jessica Simpson. He wrote the song "Your Body Is A Wonderland" for Jennifer Love Hewitt. One of my favorite songs from John Mayer is "Waiting On The World To Change". Also, John Mayer just looks like a handsome and cool guy. I hope to continue to hear more and more great songs from him in the future. I give John an applause and a 9 for his talent.

    John Mayer is awesome, he came to San Antonio on June 24,2007, the concert was great!!!!!! And great looking as well.... hide show

    I have heard John Mayer's music, but not anything like it being live in concert. He's awesome, I had a great night that night. Hope he comes back, his Live Earth performance was great. I just wish I had a VIP pass for backstage, his drummer is from San Antonio. I've been to many concerts and his is the best one bar none. I've got his music on my I-Pod as many as you may have also. Whatever John comes up with next, we'll just have to wait and see. I know it will be great and awesome. He's very talented, some people say no but even my sister who hadn't heard of John Mayer, really enjoyed the concert........

    A talented singer that was born in Brigeport,Connecticut.He won an award at the grammies.He wrote songs such as 'You're Body's a Wonderland','Daugters','Waiting On The World To Change' and many others.What else is there to say about this talented guy? hide show

    John Mayer has so much talent.He is now my new favorite singer.John Mayer has talent by doing things his own way. He has such a great singing voice.Most male singers use women voices to be talented like James Blunt.He doesn't use silly dance moves in music videos like Justin Timberlake.In 'Waiting On The World to Change'he was making murals in the video which suits it very well.John is a solo singer and everyone loves him.That's how good he is.John was born a talented singer.He should have been a singer when he was 1 year old.He always gives his songs a good tune and sings it the right way no matter what it is.I never met anyone who hated him.Whoever hates him got problems.With all his talent,I give him a 10.
