    Jon Hamm
    :
I was raised by a single mom and am surrounded by strong women, so seeing females treated as nothing more than ornaments or toys doesn't sit well with me. But it's very true to life in the 1960s.

Jon Hamm: I grew up watching Gregory Peck, Burt Lancaster, Gary Cooper and Robert Mitchum. I loved their intensity and power. We don't have guys like that any more. The prevailing movie stars, with the exception of George Clooney, are these overgrown kids. Maybe the moviegoing public decided that they wanted their men infantilized.

    Jon Hamm:
Even when I was young, I didn't look particularly young. I was 24 then and, whenever I'd go in for an audition, they'd say, 'You're too old. We need these guys to look like teenagers. You could maybe come back and audition for the dad.

Jon Hamm: (on the death of her mother)
You deal with it the best you can although obviously you're not equipped to really deal with it. I denied it for as long as I could, and it all came out 10 years later in terrible behavior and acting out. It was a traumatic thing to happen. It's your mother, and mothers should be around for awhile. If I ever see a movie with a dying mom, I'm on the floor. I can't do Terms of Endearment (1983) - I'll be a wreck for a week.

Jon Hamm: Well, c'mon, if I want to win awards, let's talk gay [Laughs] Now, if I were a mentally disabled gay man, I'd hit all the boxes. If there's a great part out there, sure. For me, it's much more about being a part of telling a great story. After the first audition for Mad Men, I said, "I will do any part in this script." I just wanted to be a part of telling this story.
