Brent Spiner named his son Jackson in honor of Jonathan Frakes' son Jameson and Gates McFadden's son Jack.
Jonathan is the son-in-law of actor Ivor Francis.
He lent his voice talents to Gargoyles as, David Zanatos, along with fellow Star Trek: TNG cast members; Michael Dorn, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis and Star Trek Voyager's Kate Mulgrew.
He started a mini directing career by directing a show that he had a starring role in. (Star Trek: TNG, Episode "The Offspring".)
Jonathan played the same role in 3 different Star Trek series and in Deep Space Nine he played his character's twin-brother who pretended to be William Riker.
Jonathan is married to former General Hospital star Genie Francis (Laura Spencer).
He and Leonard Nimoy have both directed two Star Trek movies. In both cases, one of the films was a time travel story. In addition, both he and Nimoy were best known as the first officer of the USS Enterprise from their respective Star Trek series/movies.
Jonathan shares a birthday with Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry.
Jonathan Frakes: I think Star Trek has been very double-edged for all of us - as actors, writers, directors.
Jonathan Frakes: But nothing really felt like it was going to take off the way that Star Trek did, before that.
Jonathan Frakes: When I produced Roswell, it was clear to me that my value to that show was as a director, because I was not a writer, and I wasn't a line producer.
Jonathan: I see people who I think may have substituted a family with Star Trek. But, I suppose, that's not such a bad thing.
Jonathan: It would be great to see Riker and Troi go out and have their own event. I'd be thrilled. Marina [Sirtis] and I had always talked about doing a half hour Star Trek sitcom - an idea we were half kidding about. The Riker's in Space.
Jonathan: One of the problems with Enterprise was that there has been four Star Trek series before it. Even the strength of the real hard-core Trekkers isn't strong enough to carry a show in this marketplace. I have a feeling that some time will allow everyone to have a little more hunger for a new Star Trek endeavour.
Jonathan: (On "Star Trek") I have no qualms about talking about it. I'm very proud of having been a part of it, and it is what has allowed me to do what I'm doing now. It was 18 years of our lives and it has given all of us some wonderful things, not the least of which is our friendships.
Jonathan Frakes: I don't think you ever leave Star Trek for good.
Jonathan Frakes: I didn't know anything about the original Star Trek outside of the fact that it was a cultural phenomenon.
