In 2004, won the 1st Annual Canadian Short Playwriting Competition from The Actor's Retreat for his short play, The End Of Nevermind.
Some of the plays works written by Rannells include The Violet Pill (January 2003), Jocular Digressions from the Bughouse (July 2003, also directed), Brother Moon Sister Sun (October 2003) and Cracked (March 2004).
